A newly qualified travel agent who completed her training ahead of schedule and has recently taken on a more responsible job, has made it to the finals of a national competition. Nicola Eden, 19, from Billinge in Wigan, Lancashire, has been selected for the final round of ‘Young Travel Agent of the Year 2004’ – a nationwide competition organised by the industry’s largest training provider, TTC, to recognise the best young achievers in the industry. Nicola ? who worked at Marken Travel in Billinge for two years ? completed her NVQ Level 3 in Travel Services this year, several months ahead of schedule. She achieved consistently high standards throughout and had since gone on to a new job with First Choice, based at the company’s National Sales Centre, in Salford. “I had a fantastic two years with Marken Travel and was very grateful for the support I received throughout my training. I joined First Choice earlier this month in the hope of broadening my experience. I hope to gain extra responsibility and am already receiving in-house training in customer services.” |

Nicola, who believes the TTC Travel Training Programme increased her self-confidence and taught her new skills, added: “My training has equipped me to get the most out of working in the travel industry. It has provided me with good communication skills and an in-depth working knowledge, all of which I will take and use throughout my career. I’m thrilled to be nominated for this important award. I try to work my hardest and am already excited about future training opportunities within the industry.”
Andrea Blamire, Nicola’s assessor with TTC, said: “Nicola is a dedicated employee who has worked hard to complete her NVQ. She has been a consistently high performer at Marken Travel and I am sure she will exceed expectations in her new job at First Choice. I would like to congratulate her on all her hard work and commend her on achieving this nomination.”
Nicola will join three other finalists to compete for the title of ‘Young Travel Agent of the Year 2004’. The award ceremony will take place in Blackpool in March 2005 at TTC’s annual training conference held at Norbreck Castle Hotel.

Anneka Fiske, 19, who lives in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, has been selected for the final round of ‘Young Travel Agent of the Year 2004’ – a nationwide competition organised by the industry’s largest training provider, Travel Training Company (TTC).
Anneka, who joined Galaxy Travel in Wisbech two years ago, completed her NVQ Level 3 in Leisure and Tourism in March and has since been promoted from trainee travel consultant to travel consultant. She has also been awarded ‘Galaxy Travel Trainee of the Year’ by her employers as part of a competition open to trainees from the company’s 23 branches and has begun a further specialist training course to become an authority on Australian travel.
Commenting on her nomination, Anneka said: “Following an inspirational holiday to Thailand, I decided that I wanted to see more of the world and learn about travel. It was definitely the right decision for me because I love working in the industry and find the variety within the job really motivating. I have built up so much confidence since joining Galaxy that I seem to be improving all the time. I am very excited to be nominated for TTC’s ‘Travel Agent of the Year’ award. I have worked very hard during my training and this makes it all worthwhile.”
Jackie Purnell, Anneka’s training Assessor from TTC, said: “I am delighted Anneka has made it through to the finals. She has produced some excellent work, always using her own initiative and completing her assignments well ahead of time. Her standard of performance has already won her recognition including excellent ‘mystery shop’ results and Trainee of the Year’ within Galaxy. She is a mature and professional individual who deserves to win.”
